The MCRD Summer Day Camp is designed to provide a positive summer recreational experience for children within a safe, secure, and enriching environment. The program provides recreational activities geared to the interests of all children including arts and crafts, sports, games, library trips, pool trips, and small and large group activities.
The LIT Program will provide young people ages 13-15 the opportunity to acquire leadership skills through working inside the Summer Day Camp staff structure. The LIT should consider it an opportunity to develop valuable life and work skills.
The LIT program offers teens ages 13-15 the opportunity to develop leadership and program skills that will hopefully lead to a counselor position or perhaps a part-time recreation position in the future. Once registered, a Parent/Guardian will be contacted to set up the L.I.T. for an interview time/date. It will be a 15-minute interview and Parent/Guardian will accompany the teen in that process.
LITs then must attend a pre-camp orientation. Once camp begins, the focus will be on small group dynamics, communication skills, teamwork, leadership traits, and values. Each LIT will essentially be 50% camper and 50% worker enrolled at a reduced fee. LITs will be assigned to a specific group to assist the senior counselors. When not taking part in day camp activity, LITs will help to organize games and activities with the campers and assist the counselors with daily responsibilities. Additional duties will include daily prepare and clean up of camper lunch period. At specified times throughout the days/week, LITs will be separated from their groups for mentorship and team building activity.
Only SIX applicants will be accepted for Summer 2019. To apply, all interested teens must be 13 prior to June 1, 2019, and may not turn 16 prior that date. Each will need to complete the LIT registration and return it to the Madison County Recreation Office located at Sammy Haggard Park. Deadline is May 15, 2019. Upon acceptance, LITs must attend a pre-camp orientation.
